About Julia
Julia, a Deaf Washington native, grew up with Deaf parents and a hearing sister. She has been a mental health therapist/consultant for the past three decades. During Julia’s lengthy career as a health professional, she has learned about the complexities of mental health involving deaf and hard of hearing children and adolescents. Her work includes collaborating with various agencies and schools, as well as providing both ASL and interpreters of various other languages in therapy sessions, as many of her client’s families do not speak English. Julia has utilized interpreter services in both her professional capacity as a therapist, and in her personal life as a client, in both medical and school settings. When her two KODAs were young, she volunteered in their classrooms for many years. Her personal and professional experience with school settings has brought additional perspectives into the interpreting field and has helped with integrating interpreters into various settings, which requires a great deal of teamwork among all involved. In her free time, Julia enjoys cooking, swimming, hiking, and gardening.
